During Linda Perry’s midway performance of “What’s Up?” John McEnroe suddenly rushed across the stage. His appearance comes amid Perry’s delivery of an emotional set focused on childhood trauma and her late mother.
That said, when the sports icon began waving his arms to energize the room, the mood shifted briefly. Soon, laughter spread through the venue while guests joined the chorus louder than before. Several celebrities were spotted at the event, including Don Lemon, Gina Gershon, Kelly Bensimon, Steve Schirripa, and Patrick McEnroe.
Perry, who is preparing to release her first solo album, “Let It Die Here,” in over 25 years, spoke openly about painful parts of her childhood. During the conversation, Perry revealed she had been physically abused by her mother as a child. “There’s something really powerful when you’re getting hit, and you don’t cry,” she told the audience.
According to Page Six, she also reflected on the emotional damage that followed her into adulthood. Despite those memories, the songstress still expressed love for her mother. “I love my mom. It’s very important to understand that. She had to become a survivor because her life was shit,” Perry said. “So I could understand and sympathize and have empathy where it was coming from.”
Along with the record, Perry is also releasing a titular documentary on May 19, 2026. It will touch on her difficult past and her 2022 breast cancer diagnosis and double mastectomy. Meanwhile, as for McEnroe, he was recently confirmed as part of TNT Sports’ commentary team for the 2026 Roland-Garros tournament alongside stars like Andre Agassi and Venus Williams.
