  • Spotify is updating its Live Events feed with new venue listings, which is rolling out now to both Free and Premium subscribers
  • You can now follow your favorite local live music spots and save them to your Library, so you never miss out on a gig
  • It builds on Spotify’s Concerts Near You playlist, aiming to boost ticket sales for smaller venues in your area

Live music is a lot more than seeing your favorite artists in the flesh, the venue is just as important – and Spotify is highlighting this in its revamped in-app live events feed.

As well as a fresh design upgrade, you can now follow your favorite venues and discover new live music spots you may have missed before, which will all be saved to your Library for easy access. The new feed has already started rolling out to users, and can be used by both Free and Premium subscribers.

Building on its involvement with live music, Spotify’s new venue listings are designed with one thing in mind; to help promote venues big or small, and ensure that they’re filled to the brim with keen concert goers. Senior Director of Live Music at Spotify, Rene Volker, goes into detail:

‘Live music thrives when the right fans find the right ticket at the right time. By letting listeners follow venues right in the app, and by refreshing the Live Events feed daily to highlight highly relevant concert recommendations, we’re turning streaming intent into real-world attendance. This helps venues fill to capacity and helps fans fill their calendars with concerts they’ll love’.

Updating daily, Spotify’s new live events feed shows you concerts happening in your area ‘from this weekend’s intimate gigs to just-announced global tours’, as mentioned in Spotify’s blog post. Not only will Spotify keep you in the loop with local music gigs, but it will show you relevant gigs based on what music you’re streaming and your favorite genres – so it’s completely tailored to your unique taste.

According to Spotify’s announcement, there are more than 20,000 venues listed globally which you can follow and add to your Library. If you see a gig listed in the venue section that you like the sound of, you can click through to the event’s ticket site to get your spot in the crowd.

Spotify has had a long-standing involvement with live music events which started with its Concerts Hub in 2020, which the company later rebranded to what we now know as the Live Events section. Earlier this year, Spotify launched its Concerts Near You playlist, a one-stop place for you to stream music from artists touring your area, which also takes you to third-party booking sites to secure tickets.

For me, my feed is full of popular high-capacity venues in my area, as well as smaller venues but ones that are still notorious for their events despite their size. At the moment, intimate independent venues are yet to have their own tabs in the new section, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the update, but there’s room for growth.
