Just a week after the top echelons of musicians, celebrities, and influencers gathered in the Coachella Valley for “Bieberchella,” Stagecoach—Coachella’s country-singing sister—kicked off over the weekend. Thanks in part to Kid Rock’s “All‑American Halftime Show,” the country music genre has felt more polarized than ever. So it’s no surprise that at the world’s largest country music festival, what used to be a crowd of country hats has been infiltrated by some MAGA-asshats.
Despite the top country singers in the biz performing, the main headliner of the event seemed to be Sydney Sweeney, atop the shoulders of a very unenthused Scooter Braun. Sweeney sang along to Ella Langley and later performed karaoke with Riley Green and Lance Bass. Her taste in a romantic partner is almost as questionable as her politics: She’s a registered Republican in Florida, attended the Bezos wedding, and lest we forget… the jeans. So it’s no surprise that she was at Stagecoach rather than Coachella.
During Langley’s set, she brought out podcaster Theo Von during her performance of “Look Like You Love Me,” and I know what you might be thinking (because I’m thinking it too)…Theo Von is hardly an entertainer. Still, he performed the spoken word portion of the song, to what I’m sure was either a confused or a happy crowd. She also performed her recent song, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” which is a collaboration with the notoriously racist Morgan Wallen.

But by far the most intriguing of all the performances was Tom Hank’s son,/self-described “white boy,” Chet Hanks, who is a member of the duo Something Out West. (Being that he is a nepo baby, I’m not surprised he took a chance at a music career.) During Chet’s performance of “You Better Run,” a not-so-subtle reference to Forrest Gump, Tom stood alone in the crowd like a parent at their kid’s ballet recital. It’s almost over, Tom. Hang in there.

Langley and Green will also perform at Kid Rock’s “Rock the Country” Tour, a follow-up to the halftime show from hell that no one asked for. The tour kicks off this weekend in Texas and will feature other MAGA-loving country dudes, like Brantley Gilbert and Lee Brice, who often long for the return to a time before Woke America ruined truck drivin’ and beer drinkin’. Hell yeah, brother. The only question left is whether Sweeney will be in attendance. And if she is…she might just be crowned the undisputed MAGA Barbie champion.
