Steve Harvey just announced a devastating personal loss: the death of his father-in-law — his wife Marjorie Harvey’s father.
On Friday, June 5, the Family Feud and Celebrity Family Feud host, 69, took to Instagram to share the sad news with fans and followers.
“Yesterday we buried one of the best men I’ve ever met, James Bridges Sr., Marjorie’s father. But to me, Pop Bridges,” he captioned the update, which featured a photo of his late father-in-law. “Thank you, sir, for the example of faith, fatherhood, and family.”
In the comments, Instagram users showered Steve with condolences and prayers in the wake of the family death. One follower wrote, “So sorry, Steve, I’m praying for you and your beautiful family.”
Another shared, “Sending prayers and condolences to you and Marjorie both and family.”
Someone else echoed, “Condolences. Thoughts and prayers to you, your wife, and family.”
A different follower commented, “So sorry to hear of the passing of Marjorie’s dad. He truly was a King. Rest in Power.”
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user wrote, “I pray for peace and comfort for you and those affected. I know he had such an impactful presence.”
On June 4, just days after James’ death, Harvey and Marjorie attended a street naming ceremony honoring him in Memphis, Tennessee. The city council approved the move in May, before James died at 91 on Monday, June 1, ABC 24 Memphis reported.
“Over the course of his life, he owned Bridges Concessions, Bridges Sales and Service, BTW Transportation, in addition to being a real estate investor,” the city detailed in a news release. “He worked for Velsicol Chemical, International Harvester, Memphis City Schools, and Shelby County Correction Center, where his impact continues to be felt by employees and students he interacted with and led over many years.”
“This is the first time I’ve been to a street naming of a person just cause he was a great man,” Harvey said at the ceremony.
Steve married Marjorie, his third wife, in 2007. Their blended family consists of his twin daughters, Brandi Harvey and Karli Harvey, and a son, Broderick Harvey Jr, whom he shares with his first wife, Marcia; a son, Wynton Harvey, whom he shares with his second wife, Mary; and Marjorie’s three children, Morgan Hawthorne, Jason Harvey, and Lori Harvey, whom he adopted after they married.
