For the third time in five years comedy icons Steve Martin and Martin Short will perform in Columbia.
Martin and Short are scheduled to return this year for a Dec. 5 show at the Township Auditorium. The comedians previously performed in South Carolina’s capital city in 2023 and 2021.
They’ll come back on “The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short” tour, promoters said Monday in a news release.
Tickets for the show headlined by the comedians often associated with “Saturday Night Live” will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m., according to the release.
Ticket prices range from $89.50 to $279.50, according to the Township Auditorium’s website.
Jeff Babko and the Grammy Award-winning Steep Canyon Rangers — from Asheville, North Carolina — will also appear at the performance, promoters said.
The duo will have another show in South Carolina on the tour. The night prior to their show in Columbia, Martin and Short are scheduled to perform at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center on Dec. 4.
“The show redefines the form of a comedy in unexpected and profound ways, from two of the funniest, most influential and acclaimed talents of the past century,” promoters wrote in the release. “Their humor is often subversive, but it is always a joyous self-deprecating romp from two comedy masters driven to make each other laugh as much as the audience. The jokes come at you at a rapid-fire pace with little set-up and big punch lines as they mock Hollywood and the fickle nature of celebrity, but the comedy truly soars when they lovingly (and relentlessly) roast each other.”
Martin and Short met on the set of “The Three Amigos” and have been touring together since 2015. Their sold-out tour “An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life” inspired a 2018 Netflix special that earned four Emmy Award nominations.
Martin began his career as a television writer and stand-up comedian before finding cinematic fame as the star of movies “The Jerk,” “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” “Parenthood” and “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and “Bowfinger,” The Tribune reported. He’s been a host on “Saturday Night Live” 16 times and appeared as a special guest 19 others.
Short rose to fame as a regular cast member on sketch comedy shows “SCTV” and “Saturday Night Live,” before starring in movies including “Captain Ron,” “Clifford” and “Innerspace.”
In addition to “The Three Amigos,” he also appeared with Martin in the “Father of the Bride” films. Martin and Short, along with Selena Gomez, currently are the stars of the popular Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building.”
