Steve Martin has reacted to Father of the Bride costar Diane Keaton’s death.
“Loved!” Martin, 80, wrote via X on Saturday, October 11, alongside a black and white throwback photo of a young Keaton, whose death at age 79 was announced earlier that day.
Martin also shared one of Keaton’s famous quotes from her 1977 film Annie Hall: “La dee da, la dee da.”
Keaton died in California, a spokesperson for her family told People on Saturday. According to the outlet, no additional information about the actress’ death is available at this time. Her family has “asked for privacy.”

Martin and Keaton famously starred as married couple George Stanley Banks and Nina Banks, parents to Annie Banks (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), in 1991’s Father of the Bride and its 1995 sequel, Father of the Bride Part II. The cast, which also includes Martin Short, Kieran Culkin, George Newbern and more, reunited in 2020 for a special event called Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish), which aired via Netflix’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
Williams-Paisley, 54, also reacted to Keaton’s death via the comments section of People’s Instagram post announcing the news.
“This breaks my heart. Getting to work with Diane Keaton will always be one of the highlights of my life,” she wrote, adding a red heart emoji.

The first Father of the Bride film saw Annie prepare to marry fiancé Bryan MacKenzie (Newborn) as George attempted to accept that his little girl was all grown up. In the sequel, Annie revealed to her family that she was pregnant — and at the same time as her mother, Nina.
The reunion — which benefitted World Central Kitchen, an organization that provides meals for children and families impacted by natural disasters, war and other catastrophes — gave an update on the Banks family. George and Nina’s son, Matty (Culkin), married his fiancée via Zoom after becoming a comedy writer, while George was enjoying retirement.
In 2022, Keaton exclusively told Us whether or not she would reprise her role as Nina again.

“No one’s come forward with it. But if it were to happen, sure,” she said. “Of course I would.”
Keaton continued, “Steven, Marty, I mean, they’ve got their television show [Only Murders in the Building] now. I mean, they’re giants and they’re just incredibly great actors and funny and smart and all that. We all know that, and it works. How they’re doing it on TV is pretty remarkable.”
Keaton also confirmed that she had not seen HBO Max’s 2022 Father of the Bride reboot starring Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan.
“I have not watched the remake of Father of the Bride,” she told Us.
As for what she was looking for in future projects, Keaton shared, “I would say more of everything that comes my way. I don’t know what’s going to come my way. Maybe nothing’s going to come my way. I’ve been so lucky and so I just don’t want to push off anything without knowing if I could have a chance to know, would I be doing it or what. I wouldn’t knock out anything unless I read something that I really felt that I wouldn’t be right for, something like that. That just is not good for me.”
