Sugar will also be celebrating their return with a series of performances at Webster Hall in New York, and O2 Forum Kentish Town in London (23 May 2026 and 24 May 2026) — their first live shows since 1995.
The band first formed in 1991, and released their debut album Copper Blue just one year later. The album will be commemorated with a limited edition collection, Copper Blue – The Singles Collection, released next month via BMG on Record Store Day Black Friday (28 November). The 4LP box set will include re-issues of classic tracks and B-sides, as well as live recordings from Sugar’s 1992 performance at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro.
Reflecting on his time with the band, Bob Mould shares: “Sugar was a meteorite. I spent all of 1991 writing and performing new material at solo shows. David and Malcolm had never met, but I was certain we three would work well together.
“Sugar was a workhorse. After weeks of rehearsal in early 1992, we spent three months recording Copper Blue and Beaster. By summer 1992, the musical climate was perfect for what we created.”
