Sugar have officially reunited after launching new social media accounts last week. The Bob Mould-fronted alternative rock band is back with their first new song in 30 years, “House of Dead Memories,” and has also announced a handful of May 2026 tour dates in New York City and London. “House of Dead Memories” was originally written for Sugar’s aborted 20th anniversary reunion more than a decade ago and kept stashed until the time was right. “It’s a failed-relationship song, nothing too unique for me,” Mould told Rolling Stone about the track. “But the riff is definitely a Sugar-type riff, and it was fun to get the three of us on the floor together to record for the first time in ages.”
“I don’t want to get out too far in front of the skis, as they say,” Mould added about Sugar’s future plans beyond “House of Dead Memories” and their two-night stands in New York (May 2nd and 3rd) and London (May 23rd and 24th). “People’s reactions will probably guide a lot of the possibilities in front of us, whether it’s more songs or more shows. All three of us are all in for whatever feels right. I just want to see if people are still interested.”

Tickets for the New York shows go on sale Friday, October 24th at 10:00 a.m. local time via AXS, with the London dates available on the same day and time via Ticketmaster. Fans can gain early access by signing up for the mailing list to receive a code for the pre-sale, which begins on Wednesday, October 22nd at 10:00 a.m. local time.
Led by former Hüsker Dü frontman Mould on vocals and guitar, Sugar also features bassist David Barbe (ex-Mercyland) and Malcolm Travis (ex-Human Sexual Response) on drums. Although originally active for only a few years from 1992 to 1995, the group made a lasting impact with two albums, 1992’s Copper Blue and 1994’s File Under: Easy Listening, as well as their 1993 Beaster EP and 1995 B-sides compilation, Besides.
Their final run as a band came with a series of shows in Japan in early 1995, after which Mould embarked on a successful solo career, Travis went on to play in other bands, and Barbe moved into academia, where he teaches music business at the University of Georgia. They first attempted a reunion 14 years ago, but the vibes didn’t feel right.
“I was a little resistant to the idea of going out on a 20-year thing,” Mould explained to Rolling Stone. “I know a lot of people were doing it. So we got together and took a shot at it, and I think we all walked away thinking, ‘Eh, not right now.’ At least for me, it was like, ‘I think I’m going to do what I’m doing.’”
Now, the timing feels right, and it appears fan interest is there: the band’s new website threw a few “503 service unavailable” errors during the writing of this article.
