SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – The Town of Summerville is working to finalize plans for a proposed outdoor entertainment district. A decision could be made next month.
The goal is to increase foot traffic in the downtown area and support local businesses.
According to the town, there would be a clearly designated area where people can buy alcohol from licensed businesses and walk around from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
Some council members have raised safety concerns. Town council says it is working to ensure those concerns are addressed before moving forward with a vote.
Council members were set to discuss the proposal during a second and final reading Thursday night; however, they agreed to defer the vote to an August meeting while town leaders work to finalize plans.
