During a recent interaction with the media, Sunny Deol responded to the now-viral dialogue “Ghayal hoon, isliye Ghatak hoon” from Dhurandhar, and had nothing but praise for filmmaker Aditya Dhar.
When asked about the line’s massive popularity and whether he was considering taking copyright action over the use of titles from his iconic films, Sunny reacted with a smile. He said he felt genuinely pleased that Aditya Dhar chose to reference his work, seeing it as a gesture of respect rather than something to object to.
According to him, such callbacks are a form of tribute and acknowledgment.
Sunny further shared that Aditya Dhar is a long-time admirer of his films, which made the moment even more special for him. He added that he’s happy to see Dhurandhar performing well and resonating with audiences, calling it heartening when the next generation of filmmakers celebrates and carries forward the legacy of earlier cinema.
Not only this, Sunny Deol also shared the ‘tough phase’ in his career. Speaking to ANI, he said, “I have been in this industry for many years. And we have been seeing such things. But the most important thing that I say to everyone and what I believe is why I am here is because whatever work you do, if you are an actor, whichever field you are, I mean, ups and downs will keep happening, but aapko hardwork karte rehna padega aur karte rehna chahiye (you will have to keep working hard).”
He added, “After years of struggle, when a film does well, you start believing in destiny. Before that, you are only thinking that ‘I will make my destiny, I will do this, I will do that. A person keeps doing it.”
After a strong run of successful films, the actor went through a quieter period marked by fewer hits. Reflecting on that phase,Sunny Deol spoke about how the landscape of Hindi cinema began shifting after the turn of the millennium. Pointing to the changing nature of the industry, he said, “Things keep changing. Aur kya hota hai industry bhi kaafi badalti rahi hai (And industry has also changed a lot). And like, I think after 2000, the corporate world came in, and the ways of making films, I mean, the subjects and topics and actors’ choices and the directors, everything kept changing. So us daur mein shayad mere layak koi aesa subject ya cheez nahi thi (So maybe at that time, there was no such subject or anything like that for me).”
He suggested that as filmmaking became more corporate and storytelling trends evolved, there was a period where the kind of roles and narratives being explored didn’t quite align with his screen persona, which contributed to the slowdown in his career during that time.
