The salaries for this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here have been exposed after a former contestant shared how much he was paid to appear on the reality TV series.
KIIS FM’s Will & Woody co-host, Woody Whitelaw, revealed on air this week that he was paid over $100K for his appearance in the 2023 series.
“[Peter] Helliar [was paid the most]. I played mine down and he played his down. And then I was like, how much did you play yours down? And [it was] a lot,” he told co-host Will on the program.
“[When talking about our pay] someone brought up between 50 and 60K. I just jumped in on that. There was a bit of movement around, like everyone’s getting paid about that. And I was like, oh, you wouldn’t believe it, lo and behold, I’m getting that too.”
The hugely popular Channel 10 series returned this week, with a fresh batch of celebrities entering the jungle to battle it out for the crown.
But while they will all be slumming it out together, when it comes to their pay packets, they’re most certainly not all equals. Far from it. So who has scored the biggest pay day?
Mia Fevola is thought to be walking away with $40,000 to $60,000, while Luke Bateman and Concetta Caristo are believed to have accepted $70,000 to $90,000 each, according to Daily Mail.
Dyson Heppell and Rebekah Elmaloglou have reportedly earned $90,000 to $120,000 each to take part in the popular Channel 10 series.
Rachel Hunter scored a pretty penny, reportedly earning around $140,000 to $170,000 to be a part of the cast.
Coming in not too far behind are Gary Sweet and Deni Hines, who are both reportedly getting $100,000.
But the highest paid member of the cast this year is thought to be Barry Williams, who will be walking away from the jungle a whopping $180,000 richer.
It looks like all the money was worth it for Channel 10, however, who on Sunday enjoyed the show’s best launch numbers for three years.
According to TV Blackbox, Season 12 of the long-running franchise posted its biggest total audience since 2022, which was enough to make it the number one entertainment show of the night.
According to Channel 10, the premiere episode averaged 925,000 total national viewers marking a huge success for the broadcaster.
Meanwhile, it comes after Ex-NRL player turned TikTok star Luke Bateman broke down as he opened up about the darkest period of his life.
The 30-year-old spoke to news.com.au about the gambling addiction he developed while playing for the Canberra Raiders from 2015 to 2019.
Bateman said gambling was a common pastime for players at the club at the time, and he estimates roughly half of his teammates also had addictions.
It was a debilitating pastime, one that cost him about $500,000 during his NRL career.
“It was horrible,” he told news.com.au when asked how bad things got. “I was literally at the point of suicide. I was at the end of the tracks.”
“I think when I was in that place I … caused a lot of pain, a lot of misery to my loved ones and my family,” he said. “I was like, well I can end my own pain and I can also end all the pain that I’m causing my loved ones.
“I would not wish it upon my worst enemy,” he continued. “I was in a very, very dark place.”
“I just got to the point where I had two options left,” Bateman tragically shared. “Seek help or end it.”
Thankfully, he chose the former.
I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! airs weeknights at 7.30pm on Channel 10
