Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney won’t return to the movie screen quite yet as her latest cameo appearance was yanked from The Devil Wears Prada 2 before it hit theaters
Sydney Sweeney won’t be seen in The Devil Wears Prada 2, despite previously being spotted on set with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
The Euphoria actress squeezed in time in 2025 to visit with the A-list stars, and fans wondered if that meant she’d be in the movie. The highly-anticipated film revisits the fashion forward world of The Devil Wears Prada where a stuffy magazine editor and her new assistant clash. This time around, budding journalist Andrea Sachs (Anne) and Anna Wintour–caricature Miranda Priestly (Meryl) meet again in a new capacity.
As for where Sydney, 28, would have fit into the plot, the exact specifics are unclear. However, she was expected to play herself as a celebrity client who was working with Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), another former assistant of Miranda. It comes as fans labeled Sydney’s popular show a ‘disaster.’

An insider, though, told Entertainment Weekly not to expect Sydney to actually make the film. The insider claimed it was a “creative decision” to toss the cameo, failing to mention Sydney’s string of recent controversies.
The filmmakers allegedly believed her scene was ultimately out of place in the storyboard, but they were thankful to for Sydney’s time. In fact, it was reportedly a difficult decision for the team to yank the cameo.
The Devil Wears Prada is slated for a May 1 release date.
Sydney’s bad press started in late 2025 when she teamed up with American Eagle for a jeans marketing campaign. In advertisements for the company’s denim, she referred to having “good jeans,” meant to be a double meaning for the phrase “good genes” in reference to her blonde hair and blue eyes.
However, the public interpreted this to be a “Nazi dogwhistle” given the notorious priority the Nazi regime put on people with certain characteristics. They claimed Sydney was promoting eugenics to the public, which the company claimed was never the intention.
“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans, her story,” the retailer said in a statement. “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
“I was honestly surprised by the reaction,” Sydney told PEOPLE. “I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true.”
Controversy about Sydney’s political leanings continued to build up as she was labeled a conservative by the public. After all, voting records showed the actress was registered to the Republican Party.
Sydney found herself further criticized with her return to Euphoria, where she plays Cassie. In the show, she showed off her body as a cam girl, dressing up as a dog for some puppy play. In another scene, Cassie appeared to dress in an infantilized manner, leaving the public to criticize her for allegedly portraying age play.
