Takeoff‘s parents are feuding in court over the wrongful death settlement nearly four years after their son was killed.
Titania Davenport, the mother of the late Migos rapper, and Kenneth Ball, his father, are involved in a legal dispute over how to split the proceeds from the confidential wrongful death settlement, according to TMZ.
The settlement resolved the lawsuit Davenport filed against 810 Billiards & Bowling, the Houston venue where Takeoff was shot and killed in November 2022.
In court filings, Davenport describes her relationship with Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, as a “close, loving and nurturing relationship,” and details that she was a sole provider throughout his upbringing. As he became an established rapper by the 2010s, Takeoff provided financial support, taking care of “most if not all of her expenses,” Davenport said.
In the same filings, Daveport claims that Ball was “barely present” in Takeoff’s life and argued he granted “negligible financial support and effectively no emotional support” to The Last Rocket rapper.
In return, Ball argued that absence was irrelevant to the case and requested that half the settlement be issued to him. He now wants the dispute settled in Texas, where the original civil case was filed. Davenport wants it moved to Georgia, where a probate case for Takeoff’s estate is already pending in Fulton County. A judge has not yet ruled on how the proceeds will be divided.
Ball first joined the $1 million lawsuit as an intervenor in late December 2023, attaching himself to Davenport’s complaint after it was already in motion. Among Ball’s complaints was that he “suffered past and future pecuniary loss,” including funeral and burial expenses and loss of support.
Takeoff, who was 28 at the time of his death, died without a will. Suspect Patrick Xavier Clark was charged with his murder in May 2023 and is scheduled to stand trial in November.
