Tame Impala have escalated from “Loser” to Deadbeat in the span of one day: After the Kevin Parker-fronted band’s latest single arrived on Wednesday, the group has officially announced their upcoming fifth studio album.

Deadbeat arrives on October 17 via Columbia Records — Tame Impala’s first LP on the label — with the announcement coming on the heels of the album’s first two singles, the seven-minute dance track “End of Summer” and the just-released Beck-citing “Loser” with its Joe Keery-starring video.

More from Rolling Stone

Parker had previously described his long-awaited follow-up to 2020’s The Slow Rush as “kind of a future primitive rave act,” and an accompanying press release for Deadbeat reiterates that vibe, citing Western Australia’s rave scene and bush doof culture as inspiration.

However, the lyrics channel “an endless bummer, a self-deprecating fuck-up stuck in a negative feedback loop when he should have long had his shit together” as Parker navigates through domestic life. Deadbeat’s album cover, contrary to the title, features a photo of Parker and (presumably) his toddler-aged daughter:

Deadbeat is available to preorder now in a variety of formats, including an official store-exclusive vinyl and as limited-edition cassettes. The band has not yet revealed the album’s full track list.
