Tammy Slaton Addresses Soda Habits Amid Weight Loss Journey

1000-Lb. Sisters star Tammy Slaton is dedicated to her weight loss goals, but she still allows herself a treat every now and then.

Slaton, 39, took to TikTok on Tuesday, August 5, to respond to a fan who questioned why she had been holding what appeared to be a bottle of soda in her last video. The TLC personality admitted that she was drinking a bottle of Sprite and explained her reasoning.

“Everybody is different,” Slaton said. “I’m not supposed to drink the sodies as much, and that was Sprite. Well, sorry.”

She continued, “In moderation, you can eat or drink whatever you want. And I drink a lot of water, and I drink a lot of sodies, but I’m still, like, three, four years post-op. … Everything I’m doing is not fine, but it’s OK because I’m still continuing on my diet. I’m still continuing to lose weight, and I’m still hitting goals. So thank you for your comment.”

Fans flooded the comments section with support for Slaton.

Slaton’s weight loss journey began after a medical incident in 2022. She was placed in a medically induced coma and lost 115 pounds in 30 days during her hospital stay. The reality star, who weighed 725 pounds at her heaviest, eventually got down to under 550 pounds in order to qualify for bariatric surgery in July 2022.

By December 2023, Slaton confirmed that she weighed 285 pounds.

“One of the big changes that I have gone through this past year is probably small to most people. But to me it was huge,” she told People. “Just being able to walk without a walker or be pushed in a wheelchair, and no oxygen. I don’t even sleep with it at night anymore. Then it was being able to fit in a regular vehicle, front seat, and then the belt buckle and not having to use an extender now. So I mean, just what seems minor to people, is giant to me.”

In April, Tammy revealed that she had lost a total of 500 pounds.

“When I was at my heaviest, I was 700-plus pounds,” she said during an episode of her and sister Amy Slaton’s TLC series. “Right now, I’m weighing in at 238.”

Tammy also compared her weight loss journey to Amy’s, as her 37-year-old sister has lost 176 pounds.

“Everyone is telling me I look smaller than Amy,” she noted. “That’s kind of hard to believe. I can’t believe I did that.”

After hitting her weight loss milestone, Tammy revealed in June that she underwent skin removal surgery earlier this year.

“I was just overwhelmed with excitement,” she told People of the moment she was approved for the surgery. “I worked really hard for this, and now it’s here. I’m pretty sure it was noticeable on my face how immediately shocked and then overwhelmed with joy I was.”
