Target has updated its return policy and reintroduced a limited price match guarantee for the holiday season. The Minneapolis-headquartered retailer announced this month that customers and gift recipients will have extra time to return certain purchases made between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24, 2025.
Typically, Target offers free returns within 90 days for most new, unopened items. The return window begins on the day the item was purchased in store or the invoice date for online orders. That policy still stands.
However, for larger ticket items like electronics, entertainment products, and Target Plus items, the return policy is reduced to 30 days. For Apple products, Beats products, and mobile phones, the return window is only 14 days.
To accommodate gift recipients, Target has decided that the return period for the specific items mentioned (electronics, entertainment, Apple, Beats, mobile phones, and Target Plus items) bought between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24, 2025, will begin on Dec. 26, 2025, rather than the purchase date.
Therefore, the 14-day or 30-day window will start the day after Christmas and not on date of purchase.
Here’s a breakdown of the revised return deadlines:
- Electronics and entertainment items (excluding Apple and Beats): must be returned by Jan. 24, 2026.
- Apple and Beats products and mobile phones (unlocked or prepaid): must be returned by Jan. 8, 2026.
- Target Plus items (excluding seasonal holiday décor): must be returned by Jan. 24, 2026.
Target has also introduced its Holiday Price Match Guarantee promotion, which runs from Nov. 1 through Dec. 24, 2025. This guarantee ensures that if the price of an item drops later in the season at Target, the retailer will match the lower price.
Unlike Target’s previous Price Match Guarantee program, which was discontinued in July and allowed price matching against competitors like Amazon or Walmart, this guarantee is only available during the holiday period and only applies if the lower price is found at Target and not elsewhere.
These policy updates come shortly after Target introduced a new friendliness and smiling policy for its employees.
