Taylor Sheridan is set to work on a major project before moving from Paramount to NBCUniversal, it has emerged.
The 55-year-old writer and director, who co-created Yellowstone, and Peter Berg will co-write the script for Paramount and Activision’s live-action feature film adaptation of Call of Duty.
Director and producer Peter will also direct the movie. The deal comes just days after it emerged that Taylor will move to NBCUniversal in 2029.
As reported by Variety, Taylor, Peter and 101 Studios’ David Glasser will produce the Call of Duty project, based on the popular video game and backed by Activision.
Since the original Call of Duty debuted in 2003, more than 30 mainline games have been released.
According to reports, the new deal is focused on making one Call of Duty movie, but there is also potential for Paramount to expand across film and TV.
Plot details for the film haven’t been revealed, but the video game is a first-person shooter military series.
Other films inspired by video games are blockbusters such as Super Mario Bros. and A Minecraft Movie.
It comes after reports that Taylor will leave Paramount and move to NBCUniversal after closing a long-term film and television deal with the company.
The five-year deal is set to begin on January 1, 2029, once Taylor’s contract with Paramount ends at the end of 2028.
The news was first shared by Puck. Taylor’s collaborator and producing partner David and his 101 Studios will also move to NBCUniversal, with a new contract beginning in early 2026, after his company fulfills its current obligations to Paramount, Deadline reports.
In addition to Yellowstone, Taylor also created the Sylvester Stallone-led franchise Tulsa King.
He has also worked on other programming such as Special Ops: Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown.
Back in 2023, Taylor told The Hollywood Reporter, “I spent the first 37 years of my life compromising.When I quit acting, I decided that I am going to tell my stories my way, period.
“If you don’t want me to tell them, fine. Give them back and I’ll find someone who does – or I won’t, and then I’ll read them in some freaking dinner theater. But I won’t compromise. There is no compromising.”
Taylor has recently worked on Yellowstone spin-off, The Madison, which is expected to premiere sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.
Leading an all-star ensemble that features Suits’ Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox and Beau Garrett is Hollywood legend Michelle Pfeiffer.
Among multiple planned spin-offs, The Madison is anticipated to deliver another major win for Paramount+ after the Yellowstone prequels, 1883 and 1923.
