Music fans love a countdown, which is why a countdown clock on Taylor Swift’s website this week caused a mighty stir on the socials. In fairness, fans didn’t have to be genius codebreakers to deduce that a countdown to 12.12am (Eastern Time) on 12th August might be about an announcement of Swift’s 12th studio album.
And so it was. ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ is the album, with the vinyl, CD and cassette versions available to pre-order from her online store. While they are listed as shipping before 13 October, a warning message notes that “this is not the release date, official release date to be announced”. The cover artwork is also unrevealed for now.
Swift also announced overnight that she’s appearing on her partner Travis Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ podcast tomorrow (Wednesday) – perhaps that’s when the release date will be revealed.
Swift’s last album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, has been streamed 8.29bn times on Spotify alone, where Swift currently has 83.5 million monthly listeners.
