Taylor Swift has released a new music video paying tribute to the legendary screen actor Elizabeth Taylor. The video accompanies Elizabeth Taylor, the third official single from Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The 36-year-old singer surprised fans on March 31 by unveiling the video exclusively to subscribers on Spotify and Apple Music. Unlike her previous elaborate visuals for singles like The Fate of Ophelia and Opalite, Swift chose to honour the British-American actor who inspired the song.
The video, released on Spotify and Apple Music, includes archival footage of Elizabeth Taylor, showcasing moments from her public life and her iconic film roles such as Cleopatra, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Swift has not yet announced when the video will be available on YouTube. The release approach is similar to that of her Opalite video, which was initially exclusive before appearing on streaming platforms. Fans can expect a wider release soon.
The change in release strategy follows YouTube’s recent decision that streams on its platform will no longer count towards Billboard chart rankings. This may have influenced Swift’s choice to prioritise exclusive streaming services initially.

Both The Fate of Ophelia and Opalite reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, with the former holding the top spot for ten weeks. Elizabeth Taylor has already entered the charts, peaking at number three so far.
While promoting The Life of a Showgirl, Swift revealed she contacted Elizabeth Taylor’s estate for permission to release the song, which includes several lyrical nods to the actor. She described the estate as “lovely” during an interview on Radio 2’s Breakfast Show.
Christopher Wilding, Elizabeth Taylor’s son, expressed his admiration for the song in an exclusive interview with People. He said he listened to it on the day it was released and noted that Swift and his mother share qualities of female empowerment.
Elizabeth Taylor died in March 2011 at the age of 79.
