PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The box office spotlight shines squarely on Taylor Swift this weekend as she brings her latest cinematic event, The Official Release Party of A Showgirl, to theaters nationwide.
The 89-minute special mixes behind-the-scenes footage with a listening-party experience, giving fans an intimate look at Swift’s creative process.
Though it’s only playing for three days, its shorter runtime allows for extra daily showings, an advantage that could push its opening even higher.
According to Box Office Pro, The Official Release Party of A Showgirl is projected to open between $30 million and $40 million, but given how Swifties showed up for The Eras Tour concert film, that number could easily climb toward the $50 million mark.
A24 Brings “The Smashing Machine” to the Ring
A24’s The Smashing Machine also debuts this weekend, starring Dwayne Johnson as MMA legend Mark Kerr and directed by Benny Safdie.
The film has drawn strong early reviews and is expected to earn $12 million – $17 million in its opening frame, according to Box Office Pro.
“One Battle After Another” Holds Strong in Its Second Week
Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ One Battle After Another is back for its second weekend after opening north of $22 million.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s action-drama is forecasted to add another $10 million – $15 million to its domestic haul.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, and newcomer Chase Infiniti, the film follows a former freedom fighter whose past resurfaces when his daughter is kidnapped.
The movie blends emotional depth with gripping performances, particularly from Penn, whose portrayal of the film’s antagonist could earn him Oscar buzz.
At nearly two hours and forty-five minutes, One Battle After Another maintains momentum thanks to its tight pacing and standout acting.
