Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl hasn’t even been out a week, and it’s already rewriting the record books.
The 35-year-old pop icon’s twelfth studio album, released Friday, October 3, has racked up 2.7 million U.S. sales in just 24 hours and shattered single-day streaming records on Spotify and Amazon Music. Vinyl demand is through the roof, with more than a million copies sold in its first week.
And while Swift recently told BBC Radio 1 she’s “so tired” and not planning another tour anytime soon, she’s far from slowing down. On Saturday, October 4, the “Actually Romantic” singer surprised fans with one more drop: four limited-edition acoustic CDs, each available for just 24 hours on her official site.
“File this under ‘save your best for the finale,’” Swift wrote on Instagram. “I think my favorite moments from the tour were the acoustic surprises. So I went back into the studio with Max and Shellback to record acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirl songs with brand new vocals and production!”
She went on to outline the releases, pairing each theme with two new recordings:
Life Is a Song (Acoustic Version) includes “Opalite (Acoustic)” and “Ruin the Friendship (My Advice Version).”
Dressing Room Rehearsal Version features “Wi$h Li$t (Settled Down Acoustic)” and “The Life of a Showgirl (Dressing Room Rehearsal Acoustic).”
Alone in My Tower (Acoustic Version) carries “The Fate of Ophelia (Acoustic)” and “Eldest Daughter (Now You’re Home Acoustic).”
So Glamorous (Cabaret Version) delivers “Elizabeth Taylor (Cabaret Version)” plus the original songwriting voice memo,
This isn’t her first time reimagining her own songs in a stripped-back style. She did it with Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, an acoustic re-recording of her Grammy-winning 2020 album, and again with “All Too Well (Sad Girl Autumn Version),” recorded live at Long Pond Studios. Both gave fans a more intimate look at her songwriting — and quickly became fan favorites.
The announcement arrives just a day before fiancé Travis Kelce’s 36th birthday. Kelce himself told listeners on New Heights that his birthday is just another “annoying day” and doesn’t get into big celebrations. Meanwhile, fans are already flooding social media with throwback images, birthday wishes, and joint tributes.
