When Taylor Swift drops an album, everyone knows. Fan or not, the world seems to erupt into a party celebrating the superstar’s latest release. San Antonio isn’t immune to the Blondie’s impact, and two events coming to the city are set to draw big crowds this fall.
Local staples Maria Bonita Restaurant and Skateland West are both hosting activities for fans next month in honor of Swift’s 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. Whether you’re more of a foodie or an active extrovert, each offers the unique opportunity to meet with fellow music enthusiasts against the soundtrack of the artist’s latest creation.
Folks can expect to feast on Swift-themed brunch and beverage options at Maria Bonita on Saturday, October 4. Texas-based DJ Miss Genafire will set the mood, taking attendees through all of the singer’s eras late into the morning. Guests should come in their “best dress,” or other attire, as Swiftie décor will be on display for all the photos their heart desires.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will be located at 350 Northaven Drive, San Antonio, Texas, 78229, a Facebook post from the company states. Typically, the business sells an array of Mexican cuisine, including chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, and tres leches cake.
Think the fun ends there? Try again. The following week, locals can head over to the city’s beloved Skateland West and relive their nostalgic childhood memories out on the floor. A two-hour-long listening party is slated for Sunday, October 12, and tickets only cost $13 per person. Door prizes will also be offered throughout the night.
Skaters can expect to roll to the sound of the new album, alongside other Swift anthems to keep them grooving. The (non-illicit) affair runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a Facebook post states.
Before these happenings kick off, the most avid of supporters can be the first to get exclusive CDs of the record at midnight on Friday, October 3. The following San Antonio Target stores will allow customers to pick it up on the same day the music drops:
San Antonio Culebra (5355 W. Loop 1604 N., San Antonio, TX 78253); San Antonio Northeast (8234 Agora Pkwy., Selma, TX 78154); San Antonio North (18255 Blanco Road, San Antonio, TX 78258).
When did Taylor Swift record ‘The Life of a Showgirl’?
In an episode of the New Heights podcast with Jason and fiancé Travis Kelce, Swift said the album was recorded last year, while she was performing in cities worldwide for her record-breaking Eras Tour.
The album will feature 12 songs, including one with “Espresso” singer Sabrina Carpenter. Swift has said that the record will be “energetically” matched to how her life felt throughout the tour’s 146-stop run, and be more upbeat than last year’s Tortured Poets Department.
