Honestly, it will only take two minutes of your life to decide for yourself… but I suspect those two minutes will be played over and over again for the rest of the year. It is catchy and cheery and effusively upbeat. It has been hailed as Swift’s return to country, but it’s really not, it has more of a 1970s soft pop rock ambience, like a jaunty Carole Bayer Sager or Neil Sedaka jingle. Musically, the highlight is some lovely California Beach Boys style harmonies that rise up after the second chorus, amidst a swell of banjos and saxophones.
It all represents an easy win for the super smart superstar, who can hitch a ride on a blockbuster brand and get an inescapable summer global hit with the minimum of promotion. I knew it… you knew it… we’ll all know it soon, whether you like it or not.
