Some of the world’s biggest stars in sports and entertainment are hitting the golf course this week.
The 36th annual American Century Championship will take place in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, as celebrities battle for a cash prize and charity donations.
The tournament is light-hearted in the early rounds, but often gets more competitive throughout the weekend. This year, sports icons Steph Curry, Travis Kelce, Charles Barkley and more will participate alongside entertainment stars Nate Bargatze, Colin Jost, Miles Teller and others.

What is the American Century Championship?
The American Century Championship is a 54-hole tournament using a modified Stableford format, where points are awarded for each hole rather than a score in relation to par.
Here’s how the scoring works:
- Albatross (3-under on a hole): 10 points
- Hole-in-one: 8 points
- Eagle (2-under): 6 points
- Birdie (1-under): 3 points
- Par (even): 1 point
- Bogey (1-over): 0 points
- Double or worse (2-over or worse): -2 points
The player with the most points after three rounds wins $150,000, followed by $70,000 for second and $40,000 for third.
The tournament also has a few traditions to spice up the action, including the Long Drive Challenge, Charity Chip Challenge and Hole-In-One Contest.

American Century Championship past winners, most victories
There are technically two defending champions in the field this week: NBA star Steph Curry and retired tennis player Mardy Fish. Curry won the American Century Championship in 2023 on a last-hole eagle putt, but didn’t play last year while in Paris for the Olympics. Fish was the 2024 winner with the second-highest scoring score in tournament history.
Rick Rhoden is an eight-time winner, followed by Dan Quinn with five victories and Billy Joe Tolliver with four. Mark Mulder (three), Tony Romo (three), Jack Wagner (two), Mark Rypien (two) and Fish (two) are the other celebrities with multiple wins.
