It’s not often celebrities do decent things anymore. Most of the time, they, like much of Hollywood, believe they are an island unto themselves, and the only people who matter are those on the island, or in the bubble, with them. In 2016, they decided that American culture, the legacy media, and most institutions belonged to only one side of the country as they cosplayed one fantasy after another about those “monsters” on the outside of their doomsday cult.
Well, those monsters are your fellow Americans, Hollywood. Claiming culture for yourselves has done nothing but destroy your brand and make much of your films and TV shows unwatchable. Where in the old days you would be a blank canvas onto which ordinary people could project their dreams, now all that seems to matter is what you think, what you stand for, etc.
But Jennifer Lawrence, shockingly, seems to have finally figured out that we don’t need celebrities to lecture to us, preach to us, or school us on how we should think. The wealthiest people in the world should realize that they sit on a pile of money because the people put them there.

If only all of Hollywood thought this way. Lawrence still sees herself as an activist; she also said she would put her politics into other movies (please don’t — that is NOT what Hollywood is for). But I am grateful she is aware enough to understand the bigger picture.
And also, she lavished praise on One Battle After Another, along with Taylor Swift, in case you were wondering or had any doubts that this was their anthem.

It might be a small thing, but to me, it’s a big thing. The Hollywood I grew up with made movies for everyone. Today’s Hollywood does not. I keep hoping that changes. Jennifer Lawrence gives me some hope.
