The Bear star Ayo Edebiri has opened up about the fan-favorite Syd and Carmy pairing, revealing why she thinks that the kitchen duo’s relationship will remain professional despite what the viewers think.
Since the first season of the acclaimed comedy-drama, a lot of fans have been theorizing that Edebiri’s Sydney and Jeremy Allen White‘s Carmy might potentially end up together due to the genius chefs’ amazing chemistry onscreen. Even though Carmy already has a love interest in the form of Molly Gordon’s Claire, fans are still holding on to the hope that Syd and Carmy’s relationship will eventually become romantic.
The Bear star reacts to the possibility of Syd and Carmy pairing up
Now, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Edebiri shared her thoughts about the possibility of Sydney and Carmy becoming a couple in future seasons, revealing that she never really interpreted the characters’ relationship as romantic. However, she understands why some people would like Syd and Carmy together due to how the characters are visibly passionate about their craft.

“I feel like we’ve been saying since [Season] 1, but I don’t know if people are starting to believe us now,” Edebiri explained. “I do think that, like, there’s something about seeing people where they’re really passionate or where they’re excelling at something, it can feel exciting and charged. It’s a hard thing to talk about because we never get it right. I don’t know, my job is to do the thing, and then how you interpret it is how you interpret it.”
Edebiri also believes that the Syd and Carmy romance won’t ever happen due to how complicated the characters are individually. If they do end up together, she thinks that scenario would be catastrophic for the restaurant.
She added, “But I do think it’s professional, and I do think if anything were to happen, it would not be the show that we’re making. And I also think it would be so crazy. That man is crazy, and that girl is a bad communicator! The restaurant would blow up in like three seconds if anything ever happened.”
