Olivia Rodrigo Reunites With Robert Smith for ‘What’s Wrong With Me’

The Cure have confirmed they have recorded 13 songs for a new album and are working on the concert film of their Troxy show last year.

Intrepid fans of the band have noticed that the bio section on their official website has been updated to bring it up to date with their 2025 activity, including the release in June of ‘Mixes Of A Lost World’, a remix album of their acclaimed 2024 comeback record ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, and frontman Robert Smith’s guest appearance during Olivia Rodrigo’s Glastonbury headline set.

In addition, they have given confirmation of the work they have been doing on new projects, including the follow-up to ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, which Smith has been hinting at for over a year.

The bio states: “In March 2025 the band went back into Rockfield Studios to record 13 more songs for a follow up album”.

It also says that after the Glastonbury appearance, Smith went “back into the studio to help re-edit and re-mix The Show Of A Lost World film…”

Around the time of the release of ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, Smith said the band had another LP that was “virtually finished”, as well as a third new record in the works. He also indicated that he would be reluctant to head back on the road until at least one of those albums had been completed.

In recent weeks, The Cure have been announcing a slew of major shows for 2026, including a string of UK and Ireland headline shows for the summer and festival headline slots at Rock Werchter, Open’er, Øya, Nova Rock, Rock En Seine, Primavera Sound, Electric Castleand the Isle Of Wight Festival. The existence of these shows, therefore, suggests that they will be releasing new music in the near future.

The dates will be The Cure’s first time on stage together since their show at London’s Troxy last November., which is now set to be the subject of a full concert film treatment after having been released as a live album.

That gig was performed in front of just 3,000 fans – including Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong, Radiohead‘s Ed O’Brien, Boy George, Mogwai‘s Stuart Braithwaite, and Pedro Pascal in the crowd. They played ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ in full, followed by a set of vintage songs, and then a selection of tracks from 1980’s ‘Seventeen Seconds’, and finally an epic encore.

There are also rumours that The Cure might play a special show at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust gig series. Smith took over as curator for the 2026 edition, after The Who’s Roger Daltrey stepped down from the role.

On top of that, the frontman also added that he can imagine the celebrations continuing all the way up until the band hit their 50th anniversary.

“I’m 70 in 2029, and that’s the 50th anniversary of the first Cure album,” Smith said. “That’s it, that really is it. If I make it that far, that’s it. In the intervening time, I’d like us to include playing concerts as part of the overall plan of what we’re going to do. I’ve loved it; the last 10 years of playing shows have been the best 10 years of being in the band. It pisses all over the other 30 years! It’s been great.”
