With crowds gathering, royalty on the platform and last-minute tweaks from the safety bods, the pressure is on for the engine to pull wagons and a carriage over 26 miles — despite its earlier struggles to stay in steam. From footplate graft to festival cheers, the run becomes a proper celebration of the invention that helped spark the Industrial Revolution.
