Despite its unceremonious cancellation last summer, The Last Ronin may not be condemned to the depths of New York City’s sewer system forever. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman recently offered a shockingly optimistic update surrounding the shelved, R-rated take on the beloved IP, revealing that the gritty comic adaptation isn’t scrapped, but rather “just delayed.”
“I don’t think the movie’s off the table,” Eastman recently told Entertainment Weekly of The Last Ronin while announcing a comic prequel to Training Day. Eastman, who created Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with comic book writer Peter Laird in 1984, didn’t reach this chipper conclusion out of nowhere, citing conversations with higher-ups at Paramount Skydance.
