The Morning Show is back. The Apple TV+ drama, which has chronicled the behind-the-scenes power struggles and shifting dynamics of the fictional network UBA since 2019, returned on September 17. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup, and Jon Hamm are all reprising their roles, and they’re joined by a roster of new faces including Jeremy Irons, Marion Cotillard, William Jackson Harper, Boyd Holbrook, and Aaron Pierre.
Filming wrapped late last year, and according to Aniston, making season 4 was no easy feat. “Oh my gosh, it was hard. It was so hard,” she told People in January, but the end result was worth it. “It’s a great season,” she said. “It’s jam-packed, that’s for sure.”
Her co-star Karen Pittman, who plays producer Mia Jordan, hinted at the scope of the upcoming storylines, teasing to The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s a wild ride. We are taking the story much wider, I feel like, than we’ve ever taken it before. A lot happens with Mia. She goes for it. A lot happens for a lot of people.”
The story picks up two years after the season 3 finale, with UBA and NBN officially merged into UBN. The network continues to grapple with an unstable media landscape, while characters old and new maneuver for influence. Season 4 will also explore the impact of AI and deepfake technology on journalism, raising timely questions about credibility, truth, and trust in the news.
As Aniston told People in July, “It hits on a lot of topics and current events, so let’s just say, it’s not Friends.”
