(NBC) — Friday on “Dateline,” the mysterious disappearance of newlywed Shannon Madill Burgess in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Days after landing the biggest audition of her acting career, Shannon failed to show up for a family gathering, leaving her loved ones in a panic.
As investigators dig deeper, unsettling details emerge that change the direction of the investigation. “Dateline” correspondent Keith Morrison interviews Shannon’s mother, Lisa Madill, sister Erin Madill, brother Tyler Madill and detectives Christina Witt and Ian Wallace.
Here is a preview of Morrison’s report:
Shannon Madill, an aspiring actress and comedian, was gone.
LISA MADILL: She’s just disappeared.
It began, the nightmare, just after this audition. A blizzard had blown through town.
ERIN MADILL: You fear the worst, but you hope for the best.
Each day that went by was worse. Her family, suspended in a never-ending state of dread.
ERIN MADILL: My biggest nightmare was that she was locked in a basement and being hurt. It became all-consuming for me.
LISA MADILL: You start to wonder if this is just gonna be a giant mystery for the rest of your life.
Possible clues would start to appear.
CHRISTINA WITT: Why is her phone moving when no one’s seen her at that point?
Then, a secret of sorts. A secret that would take the investigation in a new direction.
CHRISTINA WITT: I knocked on the door, knocked on the door. No answer. We could hear a movement, so we knew someone was inside.
