Later this month, power-pop all-star team the New Pornographers will bounce back from a weird, upsetting episode with the release of their new album The Former Site Of. We’ve already posted their songs “Votive” and “Pure Sticker Shock,” and now they’ve shared another one called “Spooky Action.”
How spooky could a New Pornographers song possibly be? Not that spooky, right? Well, “Spooky Action” is pretty far from anything that I’d call “spooky.” It is fairly tense and low-key, though, at least compared to most of what this band does. (“The Laws Have Changed” came up on a playlist when I was driving recently, and hoo baby, the world was fun again for a few minutes.) With their latest, the New Pornos build a skeletal psych-rock groove toward one of their melodic explosions. Listen below.
The Former Site Of is out 3/27 on Merge.
