The Music Venue Trust has announced details of a new initiative with The O2 to help boost the homegrown grassroots music scene.

As part of the new scheme, the London arena, which boasts a 20,000 capacity, has pledged to make a donation to the Music Venue Trust each time that a new artist headlines The O2.

The agreement is part of a wider three-year commitment from The O2. The venue has also made an initial six-figure donation to Music Venue Trust after welcoming 50 first-time performers in 2025 alone.

Mark Davyd, CEO of the Music Venue Trust, said of the scheme: “This is a hugely significant and welcome move from The O2. The success of our arenas is directly connected to the health of the grassroots venues where so many of those headliners began their journey.”

Davyd continued, “This partnership sets a powerful new benchmark for the industry, proving that major venues can actively participate in securing the future of the talent pipeline. Our challenge to every other arena in the UK is simple: The O2 has taken a lead, now it’s your chance to follow.”

Additionally, it has received support from Mumford and Sons’ Ben Lovett, who will play two shows at The O2 this week.

“Our first time taking to this iconic stage was in 2012, back when many of the venues where we had cut our teeth, including the Luminaire in Kilburn where we played our first headline show, had started closing down,” Lovett reflected.

He added, “This trend has only continued, in London and across the country, and we have done everything we can to protect the essential grassroots scene; lobbying various sitting governments, trying to educate anyone who’d listen to the fact that artists don’t just arrive in these arenas from nowhere.”

The commitment from The O2 to support the Music Venue Trust comes after it was revealed last month that the music industry contributed £8 billion to the UK economy in 2024, with much of that figure coming from artists who began on the grassroots circuit.

Chhath Puja is arguably the only festival in the world when people worship both the rising and setting sun, which amply demonstrates the deep affection that Chhath Puja attendees have for God Surya. Numerous famous people, including Neha Marda, Manisha Rani, Rati Pandey, and others, carry out the sacred rite, ask the Sun for blessings for a happy life, and express thanks for everything they have.
