BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Broome County Forum Theater is set to echo with the haunting sounds of a classic silent film as a world-renowned organist plays its spine-tingling score on a historic instrument.
The Binghamton Theater Organ Society and Dennis James are presenting The Phantom of the Opera on October 19. The 1925 silent film is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Those in attendance will be able to watch the film as James plays the soundtrack.
James has been playing the Phantom of the Opera for 58 years. He says he will be playing the music exactly how it was played back in 1925. He says audience members will be transported back to the era.
“You’re going to see and hear the movie the way it was meant to be seen in 1925. And it’s an absolutely perfect environment to do it because the Forum is an original movie palace. It’s now a concert hall, and the pipe organ is a 1920s pipe organ, just the way it was at the time. So, what they’re going to do is go to the movies the way it was in 1925,” said James.
The concert will begin at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $20, $15 for members and veterans, and free for children and students.
