The Pitt actor Moshe Kasher is opening up about his battle with cancer.
“3 months ago, while in Savannah, producing the new Judd Apatow/Glenn Powell movie, The Comeback King, which is going to rule so hard, I found a bump on my tonsil. It was cancer, which did not rule so hard,” Kasher, 46, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, June 21. “Two days ago, a Jewish surgery robot at Cedars Sinai yanked my jaw open for 5 hours and cut it out and then slit my throat and dissected my neck leaving me with a hardcore neck scar which will make people reluctant to street fight me.”
Kasher continued, “My tongue was clamped and yanked out of my mouth and is so swollen and bruised, I sound like I am sam.”
Kasher shared a photo from inside a doctor’s office, where he captured a selfie of his neck and drew an arrow that read, “Location of future hardcore neck scar.”
“This has been the most terrifying and consciousness consuming experience of my life. My life has been terror, meditation, tears and medical planning (oh and 12 hour days on set pitching jokes),” he wrote. “I truly cannot believe I managed to work an entire movie while dealing with this, but Judd could not have been a more kind, supportive and nurturing friend all while on the verge of a five-hour energy overdose from his terrifying habit.”
Kahser noted that the “people at Cedars are all such kind pros,” sharing that he feels like he’s “in the best hands possible.”
“I’m in pain and I’m in the middle of a very difficult process. It’s gonna be a long summer, but the good news is the cancer I have has an incredibly high cure rate (in the 95 percent zone),” he wrote. “I will find out next week if I need radiation or not but regardless I will be OK and back to being a cool dude ASAP.”
He continued, “The other bit of good news is that this is cancer you get from sex, so it’s cool that now you know I’ve officially had that (in a warehouse in the 90’s! Natasha did not give me this. The bad news is HPV positive tonsil cancer is an epidemic in men under 55.”
Kasher encouraged his followers to “get checked and vaccinate your damn kids.”
“Work out your RFK anxieties on the measles if you must, trust me, you do not want your kids to go through this,” he wrote. “As for going through this — I am. I will continue. I will get better. I’m so grateful I have a life that’s worth living and a kid to raise this Father’s Day.”
He continued, “Also, a black dude told me my discharge outfit was ‘gas’ and that was the day after Juneteenth, so that kinda makes everything worth it.”
Kasher went on to share a selfie in the hospital, holding up a packet of syrup for the camera beside a plate of food.
“This ‘meal’ pic is French Toast & Pancakes, so you know the level I’m living at currently,” he wrote. “I just had to tap out from eating hummus because it’s a little too hardcore for me.”
He continued, “I don’t know when I’ll be back onstage or making a podcast but Natasha and I just recorded a whole hour talking about it on the next release of ‘The Endless Honeymoon Podcast.’ We literally pressed stop and drove to the hospital, so if you want to hear exactly what I sound like when I don’t know if I will be alive the next day, give it a list.”
Kasher went on to give a shout-out to his loved ones in his life.
“Thanks to Natasha and all of my wonderful friends who have been so supportive,” he concluded. “I woke up on that operating table so flooded with emotions and gratitude for my life and the gift of consciousness. I can’t wait to get back to work but for now — I breathe, I walk, I eat, I survive, I live.”
