Southern rock collective the Red Clay Strays will release their new single, “People Hatin’,” this Friday, October 3rd, following a shift in plans prompted by recent social unrest, the group announced Tuesday evening.
The announcement was made via an Instagram post this evening, featuring a vibrant, retro-styled image of frontman Brandon Coleman and bandmates posing with their instruments. “We wrote this song back in April and originally didn’t plan on releasing it as a single. But now more than ever, it’s a message everyone needs to hear,” the caption read. “People Hatin’ out Friday. Hit the link in our bio to pre-save.”
The decision to fast-track the track stems from the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10th, an event the band discussed earlier Tuesday on The Joe Rogan Experience (#2386). Initially penned during April studio sessions and not slated for single release, “People Hatin’” was prioritized after the killing, which has intensified national debates over political violence. “But after the Charlie Kirk thing, it’s just like, hey, we got together and we like, I think we need to put “People Hatin’” out instead for the first single because it’s just we’ve got to start,” Coleman said on the podcast.
The Mobile, Alabama-based quintet—comprising Coleman (vocals/guitar), Eric Dutt (guitar), Drew Nix (bass), Taylor Powell (keys), and Andy Bishop (drums)—is known for blending country, rock and gospel, with hits from their 2022 debut Moment of Truth and 2024’s Made By These Moments. The single marks their first new material since the latter’s release, with no additional production details disclosed.
