The Rolling Stones have released the surreal new music video for their latest single In The Stars ahead of the arrival of their newly announced album Foreign Tongues.

The video, directed by acclaimed filmmaker François Rousselet and featuring actress Odessa A’zion, has been described as a “hundred-person jam session crossing space and time led by Mick, Keith and Ronnie from The Rolling Stones back from the 60s.”

Blending psychedelic visuals with chaotic performance sequences, the clip leans heavily into the band’s enduring image as one of rock music’s most unpredictable and influential forces, while also tying into the nostalgic and exploratory themes surrounding the upcoming album.

In The Stars serves as the lead single from Foreign Tongues, which is set for release on July 10 via Polydor/Universal Music.

The 14-track record arrives less than three years after the band’s Grammy-winning album Hackney Diamonds, which topped charts around the world and became another major commercial success for the legendary group.

Alongside In The Stars, the band also recently unveiled album opener Rough and Twisted, which first appeared in mysterious fashion as a limited white-label vinyl release credited to fictional band The Cockroaches — sparking intense speculation among fans before the official announcement.

According to the band, Foreign Tongues returns to the classic foundations of The Rolling Stones’ sound while continuing to push into new territory.

The group described the album as rooted in “blues, country, rock and classic Stones songwriting.”

The record was created during what the band called an exceptionally productive recording period at Metropolis Studios in West London, once again teaming up with Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt.

Mick Jagger said: “I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could.”

“I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone,” he added.

Keith Richards described the sessions as a continuation of the momentum created during Hackney Diamonds.

“The Foreign Tongues album has a continuity from Hackney Diamonds and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us,” Richards said.

“It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”

Meanwhile, Ronnie Wood praised the atmosphere during recording.

“The atmosphere in the room was so creative, and the whole band was on top form throughout the whole process,” he said.

“Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”

The album will also feature one of the final recorded performances from late drummer Charlie Watts, adding emotional significance to the release following his death in 2021.

A number of major guest musicians also appear across the project, including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith and Chad Smith.

The album artwork was created by acclaimed American artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn, who described designing the cover as “an artistic honour.”

With the release of the In The Stars video, anticipation surrounding Foreign Tongues is expected to intensify further as the band prepare to unveil what could become another major late-career chapter for one of rock music’s most enduring acts.
