Seeing a painting transformed and returned to its former glory is always gratifying. And this alone provides enough reward to carry through the hard work, the messes that need cleaning up and the disasters that walk into the studio. Yet sometimes a project comes along that’s about so much more than a painting, a project that touched the depths of what the word restoration means, a project that transcends art. And it’s these projects that carry through the difficult moments in life, the struggles and failures and remind us that no matter how overgrown or tattered one’s garden is, there’s always hope ahead.
