During the Sunday, Nov. 16, episode, the First Church of Springfield’s organist, Alice Glick (voiced by Tress MacNeille), keeled over in the middle of service. After her death, it was revealed that Alice left all her money to Springfield Elementary so the school could fund a new music program. Principal Skinner (Harry Shearer) informed the students that “a dead lady you’ve never met” was behind the generous contribution.

Alice previously died during the season 23 episode “Replaceable You” after being attacked by a seal robopet. She went on to appear in subsequent episodes as both a ghost and a living human. So, does that mean Alice could return from the dead once again?

No. “The Simpsons” executive producer Tim Long says Alice is gone for good this time.

“In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made. But in another, more important sense, yep she’s dead as a doornail,” Long said in a statement to TVLine.

Alice has been part of the Springfield community for decades. She made her first “Simpsons” appearance in 1991, during the season 2 episode “Three Men and a Comic Book.” She’s appeared in over 30 episodes since then.

Alice’s death comes after “The Simpsons” killed off Larry Dalrymple last year. A regular at Moe’s Tavern, Larry was featured in the cartoon’s very first episode. Larry had been slumped over dead on his barstool for some time before Moe and the other patrons noticed he was dead.

Marge Simpson (Julie Kavner) herself died during the season 36 finale, which premiered in May. She was only dead in a flash-forward, which means she’s still alive in the current “Simpsons” timeline. Set years in the future, the episode showed Marge looking down on her adult children Lisa (Yeardley Smith) and Bart Simpson (Nancy Cartwright) from heaven.

Lisa and Bart had become estranged, and the late Marge was elated when they reconciled. She’s also married to Ringo Starr in the afterlife, as Homer Simpson (Dan Castellaneta) is still alive in the future.

“The Simpsons” executive producer Matt Selman later assured fans that there are no plans to kill off Marge for good.

“Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago,” Selman told Variety in June.

New episodes of “The Simpsons” premiere on Fox on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET. Episodes are available to stream on Hulu the day after they air.
