They say all good things must come to an end, and a bittersweet finale is coming to the Coachella Valley: legendary rock bank The Who will have its farewell show on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Acrisure Arena.
The show is part of the group’s “The Song Is Over: The North American Farewell Tour,” with original members Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey delivering one last hurrah for fans.
Emerging in the mid-1960s as a new force in rock n’ roll, The Who’s brash style and poignant storytelling made them trailblazers in the genre. Inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, the band has placed 27 top-40 singles in the United States and United Kingdom and earned 17 Top 10 albums.

Tickets for the Palm Desert show will be available starting with a Citi presale and through the Who Fan Club beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on sale beginning 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at thewho.com/tour/

The Who through the years
Ever since the band emerged in the 1960s, it continued to thrill fans throughout the 1970s before undertaking its first “farewell” tour in 1982, which featured two shows at the Shea Stadium in New York. But the band returned to the road in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and later delivered a powerful performance at The Concert For New York City at Madison Square Garden shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The upcoming Acrisure Arena show is not the first time the legendary act has performed in the Coachella Valley. The Who was part of 2016 two-week Desert Trip music festival, playing both Sundays as an opener for Roger Waters. The Desert Sun reported that the band came out swinging with the volume on 10 and an onslaught of hits. Other performers on the lineup included The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Neil Young.
The group has earned a number of accolades, including the Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement in Live Music Award and inductions in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and UK Music Hall Of Fame in 2005.
Some of their most notable hits include “Baba O’Riley,” “My Generation,” “Magic Bus” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”
