German composer Hans Zimmer is one of the word’s most decorated film and TV composers and music producers. If you have watched the 1994’s The Lion King or 2021’s Dune, you are familiar with his Academy Award-winning work.
As the head of the film music division of DreamWorks Pictures and DreamWorks Animation studios, he has shaped the sound of such hit film franchises as director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Pirates of the Caribbean, among others.
While his work is familiar to movie watchers, his earlier incarnation as a keyboardist in the U.K. new wave act The Buggles is less well known. He appeared in the video for the group’s global hit track Video Killed the Radio Star and contributed to recordings by such charting groups as Shriekback and The Damned. Since he began fusing orchestral and electronic sounds into soundtracks in the 1980s, his name has become synonymous with film and television productions.
But with The World of Hans Zimmer — A New Dimension Tour, the artist is combining his celebrated compositions in a live music setting. The show features brand-new arrangements from Academy Award-winning scores, deep cuts from his lengthy resume and some sonic surprises to keep you smiling. While Zimmer does not perform live on stage, he has curated, produced and musically directed the live band performance with visuals.
Grammy-nominated musician Matt Dunkley will conduct top soloists and symphony orchestra musicians aided by the Nairobi Chamber Chorus and other live band players in a performance that boasts a lavish light and visuals component.
