Actress Lorna Raver has died at 81, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Raver died on May 12, but her death was publicly announced in SAG-AFTRA’s Summer 2025 magazine.
From 2006-2007, Raver replaced Millie Perkins on The Young and the Restless as Rebecca Kaplan, a Holocaust survivor and mother of Brad Carlton. She also appeared on the hit soap in 1997 playing Helen Miller. But Raver was best known for her role in Sam Raimi’s 2009 horror flick Drag Me to Hell. In it, Raver plays a villainous elderly woman who attacks Alison Lohman’s character in a parking garage and places a curse on her.
“It was really interesting to me to shoot,” Raver said of the famous parking garage scene in an interview. “Our stunt doubles were there and they would give us hints about how you make this look effective…Alison and I both wanted to do as much of the work as we possibly could.”
Raver spoke about playing the character in another interview with JoBlo Movie Network. “It was a lot of fun,” she said. “I mean, it was grueling at times, but it was a lot of fun.” She went on to explain the special effects makeup process to create her character’s signature haggard look. “They did a life cast of me…one just neutral and one with me kind of screaming, and they used those molds to create the makeup.”
Throughout her career, Raver had small roles in numerous TV series, including Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, ER, Beverly Hills: 90210, Nip/Tuck, and Grey’s Anatomy. She was also an Earphones Award winner for her work narrating audiobooks. AudioFile magazine even once named her Best Voice of the Year.
RIP.
