Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will have to face what’s next on his own. The disgraced former prince was arrested on Thursday, February 19 (his 66th birthday), on charges stemming from his ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. And the royal family has no plans to help him after this, according to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack newsletter.
“There will be no photo-ops, no quiet drop-ins. He stands alone,” a source told Shuter. “The Crown cannot bleed for one man. Survival of the institution comes first. Every time.”
Shuter specified that the family will not pay for Andrew’s legal fees as he faces the charge of suspicion of misconduct in public office—which could lead to life in prison.
“There is no rescue package coming this time. No visits. No checks. No exceptions,” one source told the newsletter.
“Self-preservation is the priority now. No one wants to be collateral damage,” said another source.
The sentiments of Shuter’s sources echo the statement King Charles II shared after the news of his younger brother’s arrest broke: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities,” said the king.
“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
