While Little House on the Prairie stars may all carry the show’s legacy, little did they know, the connections formed behind the camera — and well after she show went off the air — would make their roles even more special.
In a sweet video posted to the official Instagram account for the beloved TV show, Wendi Lou Lee, who played Baby Grace, and Charlotte Stewart, who played Mrs. Beadle were chatting about how the two formed a special friendship over the years, despite never working actually together.
“When I was on ‘Little House,’ there were no little babies that I had got work with because I was in the school room all the time,” Stewart explained. “So when Wendi came on the show, I wasn’t on the show anymore, so we became friends later when the ‘Little House’ cast went on the road and we became roommates.”
Stewart’s character appeared regularly on the show for the first four seasons, starting in 1978, as the school teacher in Laura Ingalls’ hometown of Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Lee started appearing on the show in Season 5 as the youngest daughter of Ingalls. (Lee’s twin sister, Brenda Turnbaugh, also played Grace and the two would alternate playing the character.)
The show which aired from aired until 1983, has had multiple reunions and events throughout the years marking anniversaries and milestones of the series.
“The crazy thing is the first few years that we were traveling we didn’t connect and it was maybe the last 8 years or so we started doing more events,” Lee added.
“Well, you were a child,” Stewart jokingly interrupted. “She always acts like a child.”
While their age difference may have initially created a disconnect — Stewart is 84 and Lee is 48 — the two still gushed over their current friendship.
“It’s been such a blessing to have you in my life,” Lee said.
“We don’t live anywhere near each other,” Stewart explained. “We’re miles and miles apart, so we meet in airports.”
