Eye on Entertainment: Avengers Doomsday

It’s that time of year again. After months of deliberation, the Recording Academy has finally released its long list of nominees for the 2026 Grammy Awards. And wouldn’t you know it, several Texans have made the cut and could very well be taking home a gramophone of their own at the biggest night in music.

This year has been a good one for music lovers, with high-profile drops from some of the most popular artists in the industry breaking music records and the internet. From Kendrick Lamar’s legendary GNX promo run (that also doubled as a Drake takedown) to the long-awaited return of Lady Gaga’s Monster era with MAYHEM to Bad Bunny’s world domination (to the ire of racists), the jams have been endless. And some of the best music, in the eyes of the Recording Academy, has come straight from the Lone Star State.

Ahead, some of the Texas artists who are up for a 2026 Grammy Award.

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco

Things are going pretty well for Gomez. Just months after her private wedding to Blanco in Santa Barbara, California, the Grand Prairie native and her husband will soon have another milestone to celebrate: their first joint Grammy nomination. The couple has been named in the Best Dance Pop Recording category for “Bluest Flame.” The song, a hyperpop/dance-pop single on their collaborative studio album I Said I Love You First, caught fire on TikTok and in sweaty raves across the world.

Willie Nelson

The Hill Country-born pioneer of Outlaw Country can add yet another Grammy nod to his extensive list of achievements. Oh, What a Beautiful World, Nelson’s 77th (!) solo studio album, was nominated in the Recording Academy’s brand new Best Traditional Country Album category. The new lane was controversially created after Beyoncé’s 2025 Best Country Album win, and the Academy split the designation into two: Best Traditional Country Album and Best Contemporary Country Album.

Lukas Nelson

Willie Nelson’s son is also an accomplished musician. So accomplished, in fact, that Lukas is also nominated for a 2026 Grammy-against his own father. The younger Nelson’s (who was born in Austin) American Romance was critically acclaimed following its June 2025 release, praised for capturing the spirit of country music while carving out his own distinctive voice in a genre his dad helped shape.

Charley Crockett

Everybody loves Charley Crockett, and it looks like he could walk away with a Grammy to prove it. Crockett, who hails from San Benito, Texas, is celebrating his second-ever Grammy nomination today, squaring off against the Nelsons in the Best Traditional Country Album with his project Dollar a Day.

Miranda Lambert

Lindale’s very own, Miranda Lambert, is leading the country-genre nominations for the 2026 Grammys with four separate opportunities to win an award. She’s got a good chance to win Best Country Duo/Group Performance with two different entries-“A Song to Sing” alongside Chris Stapleton, and “Trailblazer,” a femme-forward anthem featuring fellow first ladies of country Reba McEntire and Lainey Wilson-as well as a shot for her solo album Postcards from Texas in the Best Contemporary Country Album category. “A Song to Sing” was also nominated for the Best Country Song award.

Who will win big at the biggest night in music? Only time will tell (but I’m predicting at least one Nelson).

The 68th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 1, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
