1. Canton First Friday

Cars will be the First Friday theme on Oct. 3 in downtown Canton.

The Superfly Car Show will be 5 to 9:30 p.m., featuring hundreds of cool cars throughout downtown on streets and in parking lots.

Other activities include The Kidz Zone outside the Eric Snow YMCA, 420 Third St. NW. Nikolina, a DJ at Q92 in Alliance, will host the Fourth Street NW dance party.

The Hub Art Factory, 336 Sixth St. NW, will present “A Haunted Hub-O-Ween,” featuring food, spirits, costumes and art. Featured artists are Jake Mensinger, Peyton Hopp, Iris Jade, Heidi Fawver, Hayla Fawver, Zach Finn, Braden Stepanovich, Sally McAfee, Isabella Ucker, Lizzie Lambrou, Justin Randall, Bella Feliciano and Olivia Feliciano.

Curated by Ben Sandy, the art show will run 5 to 10 p.m.

The Taylor Swift Showgirl Soirée will be at 9 p.m. on Oct. 4 at The Auricle Venue + Bar in downtown Canton.

2. Taylor Swift party

The Auricle Venue + Bar will host the “Taylor Swift Showgirl Soirée” starting at 9 p.m. Oct. 4.

Celebrating the Oct. 3 release of Swift’s new album “The Life of a Showgirl,” the event will run until 2:30 a.m. Oct. 5.

POP OFF! Productions will present the event at The Auricle, 201 Cleveland Ave. NW. The party includes the debut of Swift’s new album, her most iconic live performances, music videos and rare deep cuts.

There’s also a best dressed content, where Swift fans can show off their Taylor-inspired or showgirl look for the chance to win prizes. Themed cocktails also will be served.

Tickets cost $13 when purchased in advance online; the price increases to $20 on the day of the event, which is open to ages 18 and older; there’s a $3 surcharge, paid at the door, for those younger than 21. To purchse tickets, go to https://www.simpletix.com.

3. Fresh Hop Fest at UnHitched in Louisville

Fresh Hop Fest will be celebrated Oct. 4 at UnHitched Brewing Co. at 115 S. Mill St. in downtown Louisville.

Also participating will be the Ohio Hop Growers Guild. The event runs 1 to 4 p.m.

Fresh hop beers are brewed with undried hop cones, creating bold, fleeting flavors often described as grassy or floral. Traditional beers use dried hops.

Event tickets are $25 for unlimited tastings from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., plus a commemorative glass. A beer lunch option is $45, which includes food, beer, unlimited tastings and a commemorative glass.

4. Rod Meadows Canton Art Call

Artwork in the Rod Meadows Canton Art Call will be on display during the Oct. 3 First Friday event in downtown Canton at Juilliard Arts Center, 610 Market Ave. N, across from Canton Palace Theatre.

Juilliard Arts Center will be open until 9 p.m. Artwork will be showcased in Juilliard’s 3rd Space Gallery.

The event celebrates the visual arts and awards cash prizes in three categories: Juried, popular and social media vote. Prizes will be announced at an awards reception Oct. 12.

Participating artists include Kit Palencar, Emily Orsich, Stephen Aman, Nate Allen Smith, Ben Eccles, Erika Reynolds, Bruce Humbert, Michelle “Mikki” Moore, Daniel Secrest, Urte Jocaite, Bruce Budd, Walter Lee Porter, Benjamin Young, Frank Mazgaj, Heidi Fawver, David B. Martin II, Carrie Wiesen, Jo Westfall, Heather Bullach, Michael Jackson, Joshua Prince and Maddie Skemp, Mary Beth Stauffer, Zach Finn, Kat Francis, Alaska Thompson, Pamela Randolph, Lovelynn Miller and Robert Nicoll.

Votes for the best artwork can be cast on social media.

5. ‘Harvey’ staged in Minerva

The play “Harvey” will be performed Oct. 3-5 at Roxy Theatre, 114 N Market St. in downtown Minerva.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Oct. 3-4 and 2 p.m. Oct. 5.

The play tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, who insists on including his friend Harvey in all of his sister Veta’s social gatherings, but Harvey is an imaginary rabbit. The play is directed by Loni Porter and Hannah Thomas.

Tickets can be purchased for $12 in advance at the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce office or for $15 at the door. Seating is general admission. Doors open 45 minutes before show times.

6. Hitchcock double feature and ‘Scary Movie’

“Scary Movie” will be shown Oct. 3, and an Alfred Hitchcock double-feature will be Oct. 4 at Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N. in Canton.

Two Hitchcock movies, “The Birds” and “Psycho,” will be shown starting at 5:30 p.m. “Scary Movie,” released in 2000, starts at 7:30 p.m. Doors open for both events 30 minutes before showtime.

General admission tickets cost $10 for “Scary Movie” and the Hitchcock double feature. They can be purchased at the door or at cantonpalacetheatre.org.

7. Vintage Canton

Vintage Canton will be 4:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 9 at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton, featuring wine, champagne and craft beer.

Local wines and those from California, Greece, France, Spain and Italy will be featured.

Participating local wineries include Dragonfly Winery, Baltic Mill Winery, Lincoln Way Vineyards, Nauti Vine Winery and CLE Urban Winery. Live music, food and artisanal vendors also will be part of this year’s event.

Tickets, $40 presale and $45 at the event, include eight tasting tickets, and can be purchased at cantonchamber.org.

8. ‘Women of the Rock Hall’ in Massillon

A “Women of the Rock Hall” tribute will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Lions Lincoln Theatre, 156 Lincoln Way E in downtown Massillon.

The five-piece band will play the music of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Cheer, Carole King, Joan Jett, Madonna, Dolly Parton and Cyndi Lauper.

9. Faculty art exhibit at Mount Union

The University of Mount Union will host its annual faculty art exhibit beginning Oct. 2 at the Sally Otto Gallery.

The exhibit features the work of Douglas Laubacher, Margo Miller, Nick Muffet and Michael Schmidt.

Laubacher is a cartoonist and teaching artist from Ohio. His comic strip, “Unbound” runs in the Tuscarawas County Bargain Hunter. He’s a member of the National Cartoonist Society.

A member of Mount Union’s faculty since 2004, Miller is the Dr. Robert T. and Phyllis S. White Endowed Chair.

Muffet’s creative work spans interaction design, branding, print, information design, packaging and photo-video.

Schmidt, a painter and animator from Copley, works as a freelance artist and animator.

The free exhibit runs through Oct. 31. A reception will be 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 9. at Sally Otto Gallery at 35 W. Simpson St. in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts on the Mount Union campus.
