Megan Fox’s Jennifer’s Body may have fallen victim to a box-office slump due to mis-marketing, but years later, it found the audience it always deserved. So much so that, in an unexpected turn of events, it has since been christened as a cult classic within the horror-comedy genre.
While the audience may have suspected there was more to the story – especially given how the ending unfolded, with Jennifer’s powers being transferred to Needy — and considering that director Karyn Kusama had previously hinted at a possible resurrection, we are now finally hearing some more promising news straight from the director.
In an interview with Deadline, Kusama addressed the ongoing buzz surrounding a sequel, revealing that screenwriter Diablo Cody has a “fun and crazy” idea up her sleeve.
“I know she’s working on it right now,” Kusama told Deadline. “And I’m very excited to hear what comes of it. I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”
This update comes after Amanda Seyfried hinted earlier this year that a sequel was in the cards during Variety’s Actors on Actors conversation, saying, “We’re making another one.” Referring to Megan Fox, she added, “And I’m not doing it without her.”
While there hasn’t been any official casting confirmation yet, both Seyfried and Fox are reportedly being brought on board for the project.
