PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — It’s a busy weekend at the movies, and I’m keeping an eye on three major releases, all going head-to-head. Magic, mayhem, and a deadly game show reboot are all fighting for your ticket.
‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’ could take the lead
First up is now you see me: now you don’t, the third film in the heist-magic franchise. Most of the original cast is back, and with a PG-13 rating, it’s poised for a wide audience.
BoxOfficePro projects an opening between $18 million and $25 million, which could put it just ahead of the pack if fans show up strong.
‘The Running Man’ chases close behind
Right behind it is the running man, a modern reimagining of the 1987 cult classic from director Edgar Wright. Glen Powell leads this version, and BoxOfficePro expects it to land in the $15 million to $25 million range.
Early pre-sales are a little softer, and the buzz is more mixed, so it may open slightly behind now you see me.
‘Predator: Badlands’ still holding strong
Don’t count out predator: badlands in its second weekend. Last week, it shattered expectations with a $40 million debut.
This weekend, BoxOfficePro is projecting $15 million to $22 million, meaning it’s still very much in the fight despite the new competition.
Jack’s Review: Predator: Badlands
I saw predator: badlands this week, and I have to say, this one took me by surprise. Instead of the usual human-vs-Predator formula, the movie flips the script and follows a young Yautja named Dek. He’s the runt of the Predator litter, trying to prove himself worthy to his father while honoring his brother’s legacy.
It’s basically a Predator coming-of-age story, and it works. There’s plenty of action, and it adds a fresh emotional angle to the franchise.
There’s also a really fun universe-building moment. Elle Fanning shows up as a Weyland-Yutani synthetic droid, officially tying the Predator and Alien universes together. For longtime fans, that reveal hits hard.
The movie runs about an hour and forty-seven minutes, and the pacing felt just right. I never found myself looking away from the screen. It was a fun, engaging ride from start to finish.
I’m giving Predator: Badlands a solid 8 out of 10, and I definitely recommend checking it out in theaters.
Next week
One of the most anticipated movies of 2025, ‘Wicked for Good’ hits theaters on Nov 21.
