The so-called “male loneliness epidemic” gets the black-comedy treatment — and a probable explanation — in Friendship, In this new-to-streaming film about Craig (Tim Robinson), a tech exec with a beautiful wife (Kate Mara) and a sweet teenage son (Jack Dylan Grazer) — but zero friends.

He’s introduced to a readymade circle of buddies by his new neighbor, cool guy Austin (Paul Rudd, at his charismatic Rudd-iest). But their budding bromance implodes when Austin realizes Craig has zero social skills and dumps him.
Despite a few plot holes, Robinson is so great at playing that cringe-y guy that he makes this a dark but fascinating portrait.
Friendship | Premieres Friday, Sept. 5, on HBO Max
