Timothée Chalamet turned 30 on December 27, and his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, surprised him with a very special grand gesture. Chalamet spoke during his celebrity.land Town Hall with Matthew McConaughey about how Jenner arranged a secret Interstellar IMAX screening for him. McConaughey and Chalamet both acted in the 2014 film, with Chalamet playing McConaughey’s son.
Chalamet loves Interstellar, he told his co-star: “I have legitimately maybe seen it 22 times or something. I saw it 12 times in theaters when it came out.”
“His girlfriend set him up a screening of it or something for his birthday,” McConaughey revealed.
“This is true, man,” Chalamet confirmed, before going into the full story. “This is true for my last birthday. And I was grumpy on the way there, because I didn’t know where she was taking me at. It’s my birthday. Why are we driving 30 minutes outside L.A.? I got to the theater. It was Interstellar in IMAX. I said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry.’ I said, ‘I’m sorry I was so grumpy on the drive.’ But—I wasn’t going to bring that up, man.”
McConaughey laughed, and Chalamet continued. “But, listen, man, I love that movie, man,” he said. “And I just hope, I don’t know—seeing so many young faces here, I hope it resonates for you guys, too, because I just love that movie, man. And I’m the only person that gets sad every time Casey Affleck comes on-screen, you know, because that’s when I’m out [of] the movie. But I got a good friend named Ryan. He’s a Texas boy. He says Interstellar falls off at minute 37.”
This is not Chalamet’s first time talking a little about his relationship with Jenner this year. At the Critics Choice Awards, he gave her a shout-out in his Best Actor award acceptance speech. “And lastly, I’ll just say thank you to my partner of three years,” he told the crowd, including Jenner, who was his date at the ceremony. “Thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
